Clinical Practice Improvement Network

The Clinical Practice Improvement Network (CPIN) is a peer-to-peer learning network designed to provide tools, tips and best practices to assist small- and medium-sized medical groups to improve the quality of their health care.

Wide variation in health care practice persists as evidenced by the Alliance’s Community Checkup report. This is despite not only the growing awareness of evidence-based guidelines but also repeated encouragement to use them in treatment to improve health care delivery. This is especially true for the health care of patients with chronic illnesses and the utilization of preventive services.

The Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) Foundation for Health Care Improvement, the Puget Sound Health Alliance and the Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP), launched the Clinical Practice Improvement Network in the Puget Sound region in 2010.

Objectives of the Clinical Practice Improvement Network

Through the collaboration and the launch of the learning network, the Alliance, along with WSMA and WAFP, aim to achieve the following objectives:

  • Promote collegial sharing of best practices and lessons learned, proven innovations and tools and resources with the goal of stimulating accelerated and efficient implementation into practice settings;
  • Motivate and expand the number of providers who understand, adopt, and disseminate effective models of care;
  • Support and enhance the coordination of quality improvement efforts to maximize the use of evidence-based guidelines, tools, and resources across care delivery organizations;
  • Foster the development of a shared vision for optimizing quality improvement and patient experience with a focus on evidence-based care, especially for chronic conditions and preventive services.
