Public Policy and Government Relations
Public policy makers such as elected officials and others play a key role in the efforts of the Puget Sound Health Alliance. They contribute to the discussion at the Alliance table, promote efforts that reward improved performance in health care and lead by example in purchasing activities that apply aligned incentives to the health care provided to public employees and their family members. Contact with policy makers is an important activity for communicating the Alliance’s vision for improvement in health care quality and patient experience and building the Alliance’s credibility and reputation as a trusted resource.
The Alliance’s primary public policy role is to serve as a trusted, objective expert and valued information resource by providing reliable information and insightful perspectives on important health care policy issues. In public arenas, the Alliance focuses much of its communication around its mission and goals, alignment with other health care quality improvement efforts, and broad areas where collaboration is most productive.
Positions taken by the Alliance are not binding on any organization or individual participating in the Alliance. In all public policy activity, the Alliance adheres to the political involvement limitations imposed on 501(c)3 tax-exempt organizations.
In March 2009, the Alliance Board of Directors approved the Alliance Approach to Public Policy and Government Relations.
